Back to Maker Faire Rome, the extraordinary space dedicated entirely to artisans, manufacturing processes, and the digital revolution! Following the success of 2018 and 2019, Medaarch - in collaboration with WASP and Lab Mec - by popular demand, reintroduces the Center for Digital Craftsmanship for the 2023 edition of Maker Faire Rome. A 145 m² space designed as a public lounge where live demonstrations showcase how the connection between Italian craftsmanship, experimentation, and digital technology is contributing to the revival of Made in Italy, the enhancement of talents, the regeneration of territories, and the creation of an innovation ecosystem. This space is dedicated to the new Renaissance, where one can admire high-impact and commercially successful design solutions achieved through a skillful combination of traditional processes and the use of new digital technologies. The project's protagonists are the new artisan workshops: innovative and competitive enterprises operating in the excellence sectors of Made in Italy, such as fashion, ceramics, wood, and glass. These enterprises will guide us on a special journey into the new era of expertise, where creativity and technological innovation merge to generate large-scale innovations. So, mark your calendars from October 20th to 22nd at Fiera Roma in the Life Pavilion. Over the three days, eight enterprises will demonstrate their processes and the ways they have chosen to use new digital tools, showing how technological solutions can already find fertile ground in Italian production chains, creating strong opportunities for manufacturing and Made in Italy talent. There will be a chance to experience the most interesting virtual reality applications for craftsmanship, presented by Sautech, Medaarch, and Enco with the Artista project. You'll encounter the history and art of master Giuseppe Cicalese, who will create ceramic and sculptural works through live demonstrations involving 3D printing and virtual reality. Maker: Epitomea

Clients & problems: Healthcare professionals and students. Busy schedules, statistical illiteracy and information saturation make it difficult for them to stay up-to-date. “In the biomedical field alone, more than 1 million articles pour into the PubMed database each year […]” (Nature). The problems are known, but hard to quantify in net terms. Our clients difficulties lies in that periodic and in-depth professional updating activity is a work in itself. Sacrificing patient hours for studying is sometimes not possible. Among the most unpleasant consequences, the discovery that a patient has been treated with an outdated therapy. Such an eventuality would be preferable not to be turned turn into a "necessary evil", a painful trade-off between the number of patients who require treatment and the quality of the treatment that can be administered. In addition to the suffering on a strictly human level, another problem that is becoming more acute is that of lawsuits for "malpractice". Growing, they discourage doctors from riskier practices for patients, as well as young people from embarking on a medical career. Our solution: it can be described as a search engine which, because of an AI algorithm, is able to: - Search for scientific articles related to a specific query and summarize their content; - Classify the results on the basis of various parameters (e.g. methodological value, citations, impact factor), assigning them a qualitative value, thus identifying the most solid research; - Aggregate the results based on the aforementioned parameters; - Produce an output that can be consulted quickly, listing the sources on which the analysis was conducted to draw up an effective overview on which to plan an update; - Assisting researcher in scientific writing & data production; - Automatic meta-analysis. Innovation: First, we will move away from the DSS (Decision Support System) approach of our main competitor, Uptodate.com, to embrace a full AI paradigm. Then, we will find a niche in the scientific publication sector, by creating a set of tool for many scientists willing to publish high quality research. By doing to, our analytic efficiency will further increase. We already have a registered trademark and an industrial patent.

Chewing: sei come mangi

Faire: Rome

Maker: Alessia Riente

Chewing is a process of vital importance for our well-being and to ensure proper digestion of food. In addition to its primary function of breaking down food into smaller pieces, chewing plays a crucial role in promoting optimal assimilation of nutrients and promoting the overall health of our digestive system. From the beginning of the digestive process, chewing plays a significant role in preparing food for the subsequent action of digestive enzymes present in the gastrointestinal tract. By properly chewing food, we break it down into smaller particles, allowing digestive enzymes to act more efficiently on them. Furthermore, chewing favors the interaction of food with saliva, which contains enzymes capable of starting the decomposition of carbohydrates. This process facilitates the digestion and absorption of nutrients as they pass through the digestive system. Slow and thorough chewing allows our brain to receive satiety signals in a timely manner, thus reducing the risk of overeating. This is particularly important for those who wish to manage their body weight or adopt healthier eating habits. Several factors can influence the functionality of chewing. For example, some conditions such as temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD) or dental malocclusions can impair the ability to chew properly. Additionally, habits such as smoking can have a negative impact on oral health and masticatory function. In the scientific literature, several techniques have been described that use electromyography (EMG) technology to analyze mastication. However, these techniques are mainly aimed at detecting the presence of the masticatory act or at classifying foods based on the electrical signals generated during chewing. To date, there is no electromyographic device that is able to provide a complete assessment of an individual's chewing performance, in order to define a personalized chewing profile that allows the user to become aware of their chewing habits and, possibly, make of the changes. In this context, "Chewing" is presented, an innovative device that represents a solution for evaluating chewing style in a non-invasive way. Chewing analyzes chewing considering different aspects of the process, such as the time dedicated to chewing, the number of chews performed, the energy used, the time of a chewing cycle and the pace of work. Thanks to this detailed analysis, it is possible to evaluate the chewing process itself, taking various aspects into consideration, and to define chewing profiles.
