Lidar a basso costo

Faire: Rome

Maker: Giorgio Liberini

This is a simple LiDAR with a TF-LUNA proximity sensor. The sensor accurately measures distances up to 5 meters using TOF technology and rotates thanks to a stepper motor. The NodeMCU coordinates calibration, rotation, and the collection of the point cloud, which is then processed by a computer. Initially, the project was intended for a different purpose and was commissioned by the recently deceased Professor Luigi Pagliarini, a pioneer in integrating robotics into art. All mechanical components were 3D printed.

ArcheoVerso

Faire: Rome

Maker: Centro di ricerca DigiLab - Sapienza Università di Roma

"ArcheoVerso" stands as a digital design solution for cultural institutions that want to be present in the metaverse, making full use of all the tools and potential, thus not limiting themselves to just a virtual presence. If for some time, all over the world, they have been welcoming VR/AR technologies as an opportunity to involve different audiences in new ways and on new platforms, the horizon of the digital universe is much broader than the simple three-dimensional re-proposition of own collections or paths. The interaction with the sphere of social media - and therefore the complexity of the relationships between physical users - makes the metaverse a frontier to be explored in its impact with the real world: ArcheoVerso will analyze its relationships and declinations from the point of view of cultural institutions, evaluating economic sustainability and technological and digital extensions that make it possible to expand its offer and capacity to involve the public.

CORTEX AUTOMATIONS

Faire: Rome

Maker: luca cortelli

Cortex is the universal controller for CNC machines or industrial automation. It is equipped with the GRBL HALL firmware, a well-known open-source firmware that allows for the control of such machinery, and a customizable and expandable user interface. The controller has been designed to meet the needs of both the industrial sector and makers, ensuring the right level of safety and ease of assembly, thanks to its RJ45 connectors that simplify and speed up wiring, reducing connection errors. In this way, even those without specific knowledge in electronics or informatics can use it easily and intuitively, making work even more manageable. The main goal of the project is to create a community that can develop the CNC technologies, a sector that has been somewhat neglected compared to that of 3D printers, despite its importance in the industrial field. Cortex offers makers and industry professionals the necessary tools to develop and improve their own projects. Its flexibility and versatility make it suitable for various applications in which the control of motors, sensors, and actuators is necessary, in addition to its use on CNC machines.

Wi-Fi Enabled Stratum-1 GNSS Time Server Built From Scratch

Faire: Rome

Maker: Cristiano Monteiro

My hands-on approach to dissecting IoT from the inside led me to fulfill a long-time dream of having an on-site Stratum-1 Network Time Protocol (NTP) server. NTP is the decades-old synchronization protocol that keeps networked computer clocks accurate. The best-case scenario for an NTP server is being fed from a Stratum-1 time source, that is, for instance, connected to the source of a VERY accurate time, usually an atomic clock (also called, Stratum-0). A good amount of Stratum-0 time sources is constantly floating over our heads! The GPS satellites, each one carrying at least two cesium atomic clocks (accurate up to 1 second every 300 million years). The idea of using GPS as a time source is not new, there are dozens of commercial products available doing precisely that. But my goal is to make it cheap, accurate, self-contained, dual-powered (mains and batteries), wireless-enabled, and portable to use on the field in my HAM Radio activities. Powered by the ever-expanding universe of microcontroller units, this goal is closer than ever. Current functionalities: - Internal RTC synched from GPS satellites constellation (backed by CR2032 battery) - Dual voltage powered - Backup battery for the whole unit (18650) - NTP and RDATE (RFC868) protocols supported - WiFi functionality as a client or access point - Syslog logging - Configuration webpage for WiFi and Syslog, saving to persistent storage (LittleFS) - Informative display with a timestamp, satellites in view, accuracy, wifi server, IP address - Dual function button, short press switch information on display, long press disables WiFi - Status at a glance, with dedicated 5mm LEDs for GPS lock, PPS signal, and WiFi status, as well as visible internal LEDs for charging and GPS module statuses

The Electronic Jug Band

Faire: Rome

Maker: Rick MacDonald

An exhibit showing how to use the latest low cost microcontroller and sensor technologies to create DIY electronic music instruments. The design and building of such instruments is a hands-on learning experience in both maker electronics and music concepts. The idea is similar to the creation of a Jug Band in the mid 1900s where individuals used household materials to create their instruments and then played them together to make music. In this case however the use of modern electronics provides many more possibilities and a much larger scope for creativity.
